Duty

As the Earth’s last line of defense, Rangers are expected to represent the best of humanity. Conduct that would be acceptable (or unacceptable) for an average person is not acceptable (or even less acceptable) for a Ranger. Instead of Morality, a Ranger has Duty, which encompasses Morality and adds on Ranger-specific pitfalls. A violation of Duty is a Lapse, and this functions the same way a Sin does for Morality.

7 Petty theft (without compensation or return); Allowing an innocent to come to harm without attempting to save them. 4 dice

Drawbacks of Low Duty

The Morphing Grid, however it works, is a force for good and selflessness, and a Ranger who falls too far down the Duty Scale will notice that his mindset makes it harder for him to properly link up with the Grid. Rangers with a Duty of 5 or lower suffer a -1 penalty to morphing or Power dicepools, and treat their Cores as one dot lower when applying them to (or as a result of) a Power. These penalties increase to -2 and two dots for Rangers with a Duty of 3 or lower, and -3/three dots for Rangers with a Duty of 1. These penalties can be ignored for a scene by spending a point of Willpower, as sheer tenacity can overcome these deficiencies for a while.
